Critter Cams
1986 Critter Cams- This one is personally my favorite. This device was an underwater video camera that would be attached to the marine animal. They observe and record behaviors of marine animals underwater. This was not only used for underwater aniamls but also land animals. This was helpful because this makes you feel like your the animal on video camera and also learn about the animal itself.
Scuba
1825 Scuba/ Scuba Gear- This allowed scienctist to swim below the surface of the ocean to observe marine organisms living in the enviroment. This was very helpful because without this, underwater camera or underwater video may have not been created. So this was a very important invention made for a person to go underwater without losing air. It kind of makes you feel like a fish(:
Underwater Camera
Late 1880's or middle of 1900's Underwater Camera- These were used mainly by a scuba diver to take pictures underwater. This was another good invention in studying the hydrosphere because it allowed a diver to take pictures in what he saw and learn more about their habitat or about the fish/ plant.
UUV (Unmanned Underwater Vehicles)
Late 80's UUV- This underwater vehicle deployed like a irobot seaglider to gather information about how much oil was spilled in the Gulf. This helped the science world because they now know how much oil had been spilled and maybe the cause of it.
AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle)
1981 AUVs- This was a robot that travles underwater without requiring input from a operator. This was also used in a way to take the high personnel costs out of scientific sampling of the ocean. These platforms are low cost as compared to ships but can nevertheless be directed as to where, when, and what they sample to full ocean depth. So it impacted the science world by cutting the cost, rather then using ships, and explored the bottom of the sea.
Diving Bell
16th Century Diving Bell- This device trapped air when inverted and were placed over the diver's head before they entered the water. This was very helpful to the science world because this allowed divers to explore the underwater, take pictures and learn about species.
SONAR (Sound Navigation And Ranging)
1906 Sonar- This was a system that uses transmitted and relfected underwater sound waves to detect and locate submerged objects or measure the distance underwater. This helped and impacted the science world because it told you the depths of the hydrosphere so they no how far or how deep that ocean or river is.
